| Roy Prevost News - October 2010 |
In June of 2008, J.K. Rowling of Harry Potter fame delivered a commencement
speech to Harvard graduates on The Fringe Benefits of Failure, and the Importance
of Imagination. Her story is quite remarkable, as she represents someone who was
on welfare and yet pulled herself up by her bootstraps and became a remarkable success.

It certainly taught me a lesson about the value of failure on our journey to success.
MANY PEOPLE ARE UNAWARE that the main difference between http:// and https://
is that it's all about keeping you secure. HTTP stands for Hyper Text
Transport Protocol.
The S (big surprise) stands for "Secure". If you visit a web site or web page,
and look at the address in the web browser, it will likely begin with the
following: http://.
This means that the website is talking to your browser using the regular
"unsecured" language. In other words, it is possible for someone to "eavesdrop"
on your computer's conversation with the website. If you fill out a form on
the website, someone might see the information you send to that site.
This is why you never ever enter your credit card number in an http website!
However, if the web address begins with
https://, that
basically means your computer is talking to the website in a secure code
that no one can eavesdrop on.
You understand why this is so important, right?
If a website ever asks you to enter your credit card information, you should
automatically look to see if the web address begins with
https://.
If it doesn't, do not provide sensitive information like a credit card number.
PASS THIS INFORMATION ALONG to friends and colleagues. (You may save someone
a lot of grief.)
Recently, it was reported that Walmart and Target were planning to open smaller
stores in major urban areas. In my opinion, this strategy fits with an upcoming
major demographic shift, the ageing baby boomer. Don't be surprised if these stores
show up in your smaller communities eventually. Not to worry, their model does
not suit the small town neighborhood format. You are successful because of the
PERSONAL CONNECTION you have with your best customers.
And finally, I could not resist
this video from Montreal
in an area
that I frequented as a younger man. I want you to view this from two perspectives.
First, if you are planning an event in your town, could you assemble a group of
musicians and create this magic? Of course, you can, with a little imagination.
Second, it's time for a little fun. If this doesn't get your toes tappin'...
Well what can I say!?
Enjoy!!
Cheers,
