Roy Prevost News - November 2010

Well, it's that time of year again; we are quickly approaching that time when multi-tasking takes on a whole new meaning.

I won't bore you with all the ups and downs of Christmas planning, however, I can offer you some help in one critical area.

How would you like to get that chore of sending out Christmas cards to friends and family out of the way... WITH THE CLICK OF A MOUSE?!!

Yes, that's all it takes!

How do you do it? Very simply!

You put all your contacts and addresses into a CSV file (my assistant can help you do that). You upload the file to the Sendout Cards website (my assistant can help you here also). You choose a card, put in a heartfelt message, hit SEND, and PRESTO, your 100 cards go out to your family/friends/clients in one swoop. No muss, no fuss.

How do you get more information about SENDOUT CARDS?

Visit their website and send a FREE card on me.

Then call my assistant, Sarah, at 604-519-1333 or email her and she will help you with all the details by:
  • helping you with the CSV file
  • walking you through the Sendout Cards website, and
  • answering all your questions.

As a family, we have been sending out 50+ cards every Christmas and we have been using Sendout Cards as our provider.

We loaded the addresses into the system several years ago and it has been a breeze particularly this time of year.

So do yourself a favour and sign up!!

Avoid the Christmas frenzy!!

Tip with Confidence

Now to the tipping points!

For years, I was always unsure what to tip when I travelled and I always felt a little embarrassed when I probably tipped too little for different services.

Here is a simple guideline that I gleaned from an inflight magazine recently.

"Tipping should be meritocratic", says Juliet Kinsman, editor-in-chief of Mr. & Mrs. Smith boutique travel specialists. "If a member of the staff has gone above the call of duty, it is important to reward them. Plus, ingratiating yourself with staff at the beginning of the stay helps ensure special treatment. Here is a handy chart for typical rates."

Housekeeper $5 - $10/day (left daily as often different people are used)
Room Service Waiter $3 - $4 in addition to automatic gratuity
Valet $2 - $3 per car delivery
Bellboy $2 for first bag; $1 for each subsequent bag
Concierge $5 - $10 for help above and beyond expectations
Doorman $2 for help with bags; $1 for a hailed cab
Spa Technician or Massage Therapist 20% of bill (check that the hotel doesn't add automatically)

Hope this helps!
